Referals for Tropical and Travel Medicine, Parasitology, Microbiology

Dr. Miguel Imperial MD MHSc D(ABMM) FRCPC is a specialist physician in the discipline of Medical Microbiology, a field which deals with the diagnosis and treatment of infections due to bacterial, viral and parasitic agents. He is certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and the American Board of Medical Microbiology and holds a Certificate of Knowledge in Travel Medicine and is a member of the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene. He completed medical school and specialty training at the University of British Columbia and did additional training in Tropical Medicine at Johns Hopkins School of Public Health in Baltimore, Maryland.

Consultations from health care providers are accepted for three areas:

1. Tropical Medicine and the Returning Traveler

Fungal, bacterial and parasitic infections acquired during travels abroad may manifest as a variety of skin lesions, gastrointestinal symptoms and constitutional complaints and are appropriate for consultation at our clinic. Common travel related complaints includes symptoms such as diarrhea and skin lesions.

2.  New Immigrant and Refugee Tropical Medicine

Recent immigrants and refugees may also present with unusual infections related to their country of origin (such as leprosy, schistosomiasis, brucellosis and deep fungal infections of the skin) and would be appropriate for referral to our clinic for workup and treatment.

 3.  General Infectious Diseases

Consultation is available for general infectious disease problems which may include: recurrent MRSA infections, cellulitis, urinary tract infections with resistant organisms, Clostridium difficile diarrhea etc.
